WAFD WaFd, Inc.

WaFd's Narrow Adjusted Beat Is Overshadowed by a Reverse Merger With EverBank That Investors Are Pricing Skeptically

WaFd (WAFD) reported adjusted fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $0.85 per share, edging the $0.84 consensus by 1.2% and rising 18.1% from a year ago. The earnings were close to an afterthought. Days before the report, WaFd agreed to an all-stock reverse merger with EverBank. EverBank will be the accounting acquirer, legacy WaFd holders will own 40.8% of the combined company, and the shares will trade under a new ticker, EVBK. The quarter matters mainly as evidence of what WaFd is giving up by ceding control. The market's reaction suggests investors are not convinced the trade is worth it.

LADR Ladder Capital Corp

Ladder Capital's Gain-Fueled Beat Masks a Stalled Lending Engine

Ladder Capital (LADR) posted the strongest quarter of its recent run, but the headline came mostly from a property sale while the lending business lost momentum. Distributable EPS of $0.35 beat the $0.21 consensus by 66.7% and grew 20.7% year over year. Revenue of $104.89 million beat the $59.5 million consensus by 76.3%, although it grew only 3.4% year over year. Distributable EPS has now risen for several straight quarters, from $0.17 ($0.21 adjusted) in Q4 FY25 to $0.22, $0.24 and now $0.35. GAAP EPS jumped to $0.53 from $0.12 in Q2. Behind those numbers, Ladder realized a large gain while its core loan-growth story stalled. That is the central tension.

CNS Cohen & Steers, Inc.

Cohen & Steers Extends Earnings Climb With a Modest Q3 Beat, but the Flow and Performance Story Behind It Remains Unverified

Cohen & Steers (CNS) posted third-quarter earnings of $0.89 per share, beating the $0.87 consensus by 2.3%. Revenue was $157.43 million. Earnings grew 9.9% year over year and revenue grew 11.1%. The headline continues a clean sequential progression. Adjusted EPS has moved from $0.81 in the fourth quarter of 2025 to $0.79 in the first quarter, $0.85 in the second and now $0.89. Revenue has risen from roughly $144 million in the first quarter to $152 million in the second and $157.43 million in the third. The central tension is the gap between that steady top line and what investors can actually verify. Third-quarter flows, AUM and relative performance remain undocumented in the supplied materials, and investor enthusiasm has drained sharply since July.

TRV The Travelers Companies, Inc.

Travelers Crushes Estimates on Reserve Releases and Record Investment Income, but Softening Commercial Pricing Clouds the Underwriting Outlook

The Travelers Companies delivered a decisive beat, with core earnings of $9.18 per share against a consensus estimate of $7.07, a 29.8% surprise. Core EPS grew 12.8% year over year. Revenue of $12.412 billion was essentially in line, beating consensus by 0.1% while slipping 0.5% from a year ago. On GAAP, net income was $9.04 per share versus $8.24, held back by $30 million of after-tax realized investment losses. The size of the beat is impressive, but it did not come from a strengthening underwriting engine. Net favorable prior-year reserve development, a record investment portfolio and an aggressive buyback did the heavy lifting, while the core pricing trend kept eroding. That is the central tension.

CFG Citizens Financial Group, Inc.

Citizens Financial Matches the Whisper as ROTCE Climbs to 15.1% and Capital Return Expands, but a 14% Pre-Report Slide Shows Investors Wanted More

Citizens Financial Group (CFG) delivered a third quarter that was strong on profitability but unremarkable against what investors were looking for. Earnings of $1.41 per share topped the $1.38 consensus and matched the $1.41 Earnings Whisper exactly, so the result landed in line with expectations. Underneath, earnings rose 34.3% year over year on revenue of $3.268 billion, up 5.8%. The gap between those two growth rates is the core of the story. Citizens is converting modest top-line growth into much faster earnings growth through operating leverage and a lower share count. The open question is how much further that conversion can run.

LOOP Loop Industries, Inc.

Loop Industries Misses as Liquidity Falls to $1.9 Million; Smaller, Later India Plant Makes Dilution the Central Issue

Loop Industries reported a fiscal second-quarter loss of $0.06 per share, missing the -$0.05 consensus by 20.0%. Revenue of $0.12 million, all from engineering services billed to the India joint venture, came in 70.8% below the $0.4 million consensus. The loss did narrow from $0.07 a year earlier, which counts as 14.3% earnings growth, and the net loss improved to $2.99 million from $3.20 million. For a pre-commercial company, though, the income statement is a sideshow. The real news is that liquidity fell to $1.9 million, the first India plant was cut by a third and pushed back a year, and management now calls equity or convertible financing "highly likely." That is the central tension. Loop is spending less than ever, but it is running out of runway faster than its project is advancing.

SFNC Simmons First National Corporation

Simmons First Trades Loan Growth for Margin: Adjusted EPS Edges Past Consensus as NIM Hits 3.92%, but a Shrinking Balance Sheet Clouds the Outlook

Simmons First National (SFNC) reported adjusted earnings of $0.54 per share for the third quarter, a penny above the $0.53 consensus for a 1.9% surprise and 17.4% above the year-ago quarter. The headline beat is modest. The more important story is a deliberate pivot from growth to profitability. Net interest margin rose 8 basis points to 3.92% and adjusted returns improved, but the balance sheet shrank and management softened its near-term loan growth outlook. That is the central tension: earnings quality is improving even as the earnings base gets smaller.

TFC Truist Financial Corporation

Truist Lands In Line as New CEO Mike Lyons Trades Near-Term NII and Buybacks for a Strategic Reset

Truist Financial reported adjusted third-quarter earnings of $1.16 per share. That matched the Earnings Whisper number exactly and came in a penny under the $1.17 consensus, a result Earnings Whispers scores as in line. Earnings grew 11.5% from a year ago, and adjusted return on tangible common equity rose 100 basis points to 14.6%. The quarter itself is not the story, though. This was the first call under new CEO Mike Lyons, and it moved Truist from a narrative of 'steady momentum' to an explicit strategic reset. The reset brings exits from non-core lending, a repositioned securities book and an enterprise-wide review with 'no sacred cows.' The price of that pivot is a smaller balance sheet, softer net interest income and reduced buybacks in the near term. That is the central tension.

MTB M&T Bank Corporation

M&T Bank Beats Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Margin Slips and Credit Turns Higher

M&T Bank reported third-quarter operating earnings of $5.08 per share, ahead of the $4.98 consensus but short of the $5.12 Earnings Whisper number, a 0.8% miss against the expectation that mattered most to investors. Earnings grew 4.3% year over year. That was slower than the 17% year-to-date operating EPS gain, and it was a step down from the record $5.35 in the second quarter. The central tension is that balance-sheet growth and fees are running ahead of plan, while the drivers that most affect a bank's earnings power are softening at the same time: margin, efficiency, credit and capital return. The quarter was not bad, but it was the first one this year in which the direction of several key metrics turned against the company.

JBHT J.B. Hunt Transport Services, Inc.

J.B. Hunt Edges Past Estimates as Fuel-Inflated Revenue Masks a $50 Million Cost Shock and Margin Retreat

J.B. Hunt Transport Services delivered a third-quarter beat that looks stronger on the top line than it does underneath. GAAP earnings of $1.82 per share topped both the $1.81 consensus and the $1.81 Earnings Whisper number by 0.6%. Revenue of $3.677 billion beat the $3.56 billion consensus by 3.3% and grew 20.4% year over year. But earnings grew only 3.4%, a sharp slowdown from the year-to-date pace, in which nine-month EPS rose to $5.21 from $4.24. The central tension is clear: demand and pricing are firming, but an unplanned surge in driver and medical costs pushed margins backward just as investors expected margin repair to show up in the numbers.

PLD Prologis, Inc.

Prologis Edges Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Core FFO Guidance Firms, GAAP Outlook Falls, and Shares Slide

Prologis delivered the kind of quarter that is hard to fault on operations and hard to celebrate on expectations. Core FFO of $1.60 per share topped the $1.58 consensus but fell short of the $1.61 Earnings Whisper number, a 0.6% miss against the bar that mattered most to investors. Revenue of $2.388 billion beat the $2.20 billion consensus by 8.5%. Earnings grew 7.4% year over year and revenue grew 7.8%, steady mid-to-high single-digit growth that neither clearly accelerated nor broke down. Management narrowed full-year Core FFO guidance to $6.25-$6.29 from $6.22-$6.30, nudging the midpoint up by a penny. The central tension is that a business still compounding cash flow is trading as though something is breaking. The stock is down 12.5% since the open after the July report.

IBKR Interactive Brokers Group, Inc.

Interactive Brokers Matches Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Trading Activity Cools and Rate and Balance Income Carries the Quarter

Interactive Brokers (IBKR) posted adjusted third-quarter earnings of $0.67 per share. That matched the consensus estimate but fell 2.9% short of the $0.67 Earnings Whisper number of $0.69. GAAP diluted EPS was $0.69, so the whisper was effectively met only on a reported basis. That basis includes a $40 million currency-diversification gain that management itself excludes from core results. Adjusted earnings grew 17.5% year over year. The central tension is that IBKR's balance-sheet engine is running as strongly as ever while its transactional engine is clearly losing speed. A quarter that delivered record pre-tax income and a sharply higher dividend still left investors with a decelerating commission story.

AA Alcoa Corporation

Alcoa Beats on a Price-Driven Step Down From Record Q2 as Alumina Recovers and AliGroup Financing Is Secured

Alcoa (AA) cleared expectations comfortably, but the quarter was a step down from a record second quarter. Adjusted earnings of $1.82 per share topped the $1.65 consensus by 10.3%, and revenue of $3.704 billion beat the $3.61 billion estimate by 2.6%. Year over year the comparison is striking: earnings grew 9,200% from an adjusted loss of $0.02 a year ago, and revenue rose 23.7%. Sequentially, however, adjusted EPS fell from $2.12, adjusted EBITDA excluding special items declined $112 million to $789 million, and revenue slipped 7% from roughly $4.0 billion. That is the central tension. Alcoa is executing better operationally and strategically, but the aluminum price tailwind that drove the second quarter has faded, and the stock's setup reflects that.

HOMB Home BancShares Inc.

Home BancShares Posts a Record Quarter, but a Zero Provision Did the Heavy Lifting as Loans and Deposits Shrank

Home BancShares delivered record third-quarter earnings of $0.65 per share, edging past the $0.64 consensus by 1.6% and growing 6.6% year over year. GAAP net income reached a company-record $129.5 million. Adjusted earnings also hit a record at $129.1 million. Even so, the beat was narrow, and its quality deserves scrutiny. Core revenue generation softened, the balance sheet contracted, and credit metrics drifted higher. The quarter's strength came largely from the expense and provision lines rather than from the franchise growing. That is the central tension.

CMC Commercial Metals Company

CMC Tops Estimates on a Strong Steel Quarter, but a Precast Shortfall and Slower West Virginia Ramp Undercut the Story

Commercial Metals Company closed fiscal 2026 with a clear beat. Adjusted earnings of $2.09 per share topped the $1.97 consensus by 6.1%. Revenue of $2.658 billion beat the $2.45 billion estimate by 8.5%. Earnings grew 52.6% year over year on 25.7% revenue growth, and the sequential trend kept improving. Adjusted EPS rose from $1.16 in the fiscal second quarter to $1.73 in the third and $2.09 in the fourth. Core EBITDA climbed in step, from $297.5 million to $353.6 million to $393.7 million. The central tension is that the quarter's strength came almost entirely from the legacy North American steel franchise. The precast acquisition, which underpins the company's repositioning as an early-stage construction platform, fell short of the targets management had reiterated all year.

PNC PNC Financial Services Group, Inc.

PNC Raises Guidance a Third Straight Time, but Thinner Margins and Capital Overshadow the Quarter

PNC Financial Services Group delivered adjusted earnings of $5.09 per share for the third quarter, up 17.0% from a year ago and above the $4.97 consensus. That was not enough for the bar investors had actually set: the Earnings Whisper number was $5.15, so the quarter registered as a 1.2% miss. The revenue picture needs a caveat. Earnings Whispers' normalized revenue of $9.36 billion beat the $6.60 billion consensus by 41.8% and grew 6.4% year over year. PNC's own reported total revenue was $6.56 billion, up 11% from a year ago. That is roughly in line with, or slightly under, the consensus figure. The two revenue measures are on clearly different bases. Investors should judge top-line performance on the company's reported revenue rather than read the 41.8% surprise as a genuine blowout. The central tension is that PNC raised full-year growth targets yet again, while the metrics that determine how valuable that growth is (margin, funding costs and capital) moved the wrong way.

EQBK Equity Bancshares, Inc.

Equity Bancshares Beats on Record Loan Production and Lincoln Deal, but Margin and Deposit Slippage Cloud the Quarter

Equity Bancshares (EQBK) delivered a clean headline beat for the third quarter. Core earnings of $1.40 per share topped the $1.31 consensus and the $1.36 Earnings Whisper number, a 2.9% surprise, and grew 15.7% from a year ago. GAAP EPS of $1.29 compares with a $1.55 loss in the year-ago quarter, which was distorted by a $53.4 million securities repositioning loss. The more important story, though, is a split franchise. Loan origination is the strongest it has been since the Frontier and NBC acquisitions. The funding side is moving the other way. That is the central tension in an otherwise confident quarter.

FHN First Horizon Corporation

First Horizon Takes a $347 Million Mortgage-Sale Charge to Buy 2027 Returns as Core Momentum Cools

First Horizon (FHN) used the third quarter to reset its balance sheet, and the headline numbers split along that line. On a GAAP basis the bank posted a net loss available to common shareholders of $94 million, or $(0.20) per share. That loss came from $347 million after tax, or $0.73 per share, of notable items, primarily the reclassification of roughly $4.5 billion of consumer mortgages to held for sale ahead of a pending portfolio sale. Excluding those items, adjusted EPS of $0.53 matched the consensus estimate exactly and rose 3.9% from a year ago. Revenue of $1.254 billion beat the $889.7 million consensus by 40.9%, but it fell 3.2% year over year. The central tension is that management is trading a large upfront hit for better 2027 profitability while the underlying franchise is losing some momentum.

BSVN Bank7 Corp.

Bank7 Matches the Whisper as Century Deal Overshadows Margin Compression

Bank7 Corp. (BSVN) earned $1.06 per share in the third quarter. That beat the $1.00 consensus but only matched the $1.06 Earnings Whisper, making it an in-line print rather than a genuine upside surprise. Reported revenue of $33.0 million came in 39.1% above the $23.73 million consensus. Earnings fell 6.2% year over year and revenue declined 8.1%. Sequentially the picture looks much better, with net income up 22.25% from the second quarter to $10.20 million. That gap is the central tension. The year-over-year trend still reflects a bank giving back margin, while the forward story has been reset by the pending Century Financial acquisition, which management says will be highly accretive to earnings.

WIT Wipro Limited

Wipro Misses on a Penny but Stabilizes Revenue and Margin, While a 23% Bookings Slide Leaves the Growth Case Waiting on Q3 Signatures

Wipro (WIT) reported fiscal second-quarter earnings of $0.03 per share, a cent below both the $0.04 consensus and the $0.04 Earnings Whisper number. That works out to a 25.0% miss, with earnings flat (0.0%) year over year. Revenue of $2.583 billion edged past the $2.57 billion consensus by 0.5% and grew 1.0% from a year ago. The miss sounds worse than it is, because a single cent at this tiny per-ADR scale produces an outsized percentage. The more important story is that Wipro halted its sequential revenue decline and rebuilt some margin, yet produced the weakest bookings quarter in at least three. That is the central tension: current execution improved while the forward pipeline metric deteriorated.

USB U.S. Bancorp

U.S. Bancorp Edges Past Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Raised Guidance and NIM Gains Collide With a Buyback Pause

U.S. Bancorp (USB) earned $1.34 per share in the third quarter, two cents above the $1.32 consensus but short of the $1.36 Earnings Whisper number. That is a 1.5% miss against the expectation that mattered most to the investors who had been bidding the stock. Earnings still grew 9.8% year over year. The miss is less about operating weakness than about what management chose to absorb. A roughly $0.07 reserve build tied to onboarding the Amazon small business co-brand card pushed EPS slightly below the second quarter's $1.35. Without it, the quarter would likely have cleared the whisper comfortably. The central tension is that the operating story improved again while the capital story got noticeably worse.

SCHW The Charles Schwab Corporation

Schwab Edges Past Estimates With Record Asset Gathering and Margins, but a Trimmed Revenue and NIM Outlook Points to Slower Earnings Growth

The Charles Schwab Corporation (SCHW) posted another record quarter, but it did not clear the bar decisively. Adjusted earnings of $1.69 per share topped the $1.66 consensus by 0.6% and edged past the $1.68 Earnings Whisper number. Revenue of $7.171 billion came in 0.1% below the $7.18 billion consensus. Earnings grew 29.0% year over year and revenue grew 16.9%. Those are strong absolute numbers, but EPS growth slowed sharply from 42% in the second quarter. That is the central tension: asset gathering and margins are accelerating while the near-term earnings growth rate is cooling, and management softened its full-year outlook on the call.

MRSH Marsh

Marsh Beats as Risk Growth Accelerates and Thrive Target Rises, but Buybacks, Pulled-Forward Fees and a Reinsurance Slide Complicate the Quality

Marsh (MRSH) cleared the bar on both lines in the third quarter. Adjusted EPS of $2.03 beat the $1.96 consensus by 3.6%, and revenue of $6.863 billion topped the $6.63 billion estimate by 3.5%. Adjusted EPS rose 10% from $1.85, extending a steady build from 8% growth in the first quarter and 9% in the second. Reported revenue grew 8%, or 5% on an underlying basis. The central tension is that the parts of the business management is leaning into are accelerating, while profitability, reinsurance and the source of some growth all argue for a more measured reading than the double-digit EPS headline suggests.

MAN ManpowerGroup Inc.

ManpowerGroup Matches Consensus but Falls Short of the Whisper as a Broadening Recovery Meets a Slower Q4 Growth Guide

ManpowerGroup's third quarter was a recovery story without a decisive beat. Adjusted earnings of $1.01 per share matched the consensus estimate but fell 1.9% short of the $1.03 Earnings Whisper number. Revenue of $4.84 billion missed the $4.91 billion consensus by 1.4%. Even so, earnings grew 21.7% year over year on revenue growth of 4.4%, and the improvement in the mix of the business was more meaningful than the headline numbers suggest. The central tension is that growth is broadening into the segments that had been dragging, while headline organic growth appears to be plateauing. The fourth-quarter outlook implies a step down in top-line momentum.

TSM Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited

TSMC's Narrow EPS Beat Masks an Accelerating AI Growth Story, but Margins Are Paying for the N2 Ramp

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing reported third-quarter earnings of $4.60 per ADR on revenue of $46.72 billion. EPS topped the $4.45 consensus and edged past the $4.58 Earnings Whisper number by 0.4%. Revenue beat the $45.62 billion consensus by 2.4%. Earnings grew 57.5% year over year and revenue rose 41.2%. The narrow beat against the whisper number understates the quarter. The more important development is the outlook. Fourth-quarter revenue guidance of $52.3 billion to $54.3 billion implies roughly 14% sequential growth and about 58% growth year over year at the midpoint, a clear acceleration from the third quarter's 41.2% dollar-revenue growth. The central tension is that TSMC is growing faster than expected while giving back gross margin to get there.

CMTL Comtech Telecommunications Corp.

Comtech Beats a Low Bar as Margins and Cash Flow Improve, but Thin Bookings and a Heavy Capital Structure Weigh on the Stock

Comtech Telecommunications posted a fiscal fourth-quarter loss of $0.04 per share, well ahead of the -$0.35 consensus, an 88.6% earnings surprise and an 85.2% improvement from a year ago. Revenue of $66.23 million fell 39.4% short of the $109.3 million consensus and declined 49.2% year over year. Both revenue comparisons need context. This was the first quarter reported with most of the Satellite and Space Communications business classified as discontinued operations ahead of its $157.5 million sale to a Gilat affiliate. On the company's recast continuing-operations basis, sales fell 12.1% from $75.3 million. About $8.4 million of that decline came from a legacy Army VSAT contract that has fully wound down. The headline revenue miss therefore appears to say more about the change in reporting basis than about demand. The real story is a smaller, higher-margin public safety company that is producing cash while still carrying a balance sheet that equity holders cannot ignore.

EDUC Educational Development Corporation

Educational Development's Sales Slide Narrows to Single Digits From Mid-30s, but a Wider Loss, Thin Cash and a $34.9 Million Inventory Pile Keep the Turnaround Unproven

Educational Development Corporation (EDUC) posted a fiscal second-quarter loss of $0.19 per share, worse than the $0.15 loss a year ago. Earnings fell 26.7% year over year. Revenue fell 11.9% to $4.07 million. No consensus estimate was available, so the quarter has to be judged on trajectory rather than surprise. On that basis, the revenue line is the real story. After year-over-year declines of roughly 37% and 36% in the third and fourth quarters of fiscal 2026, the drop shrank to roughly 12%. Management said that was well ahead of its own internal plan, which assumed a decline of about 35%. That is the first concrete evidence that the turnaround is gaining traction. The central tension is that this traction is arriving with very little financial cushion behind it.

STT State Street Corporation

State Street Clears Consensus and Raises Guidance Again, but Slowing Sales, FX and Flows Leave It Short of the Whisper

State Street (STT) earned $3.69 per share in the third quarter. That cleared the $3.65 consensus but fell 1.6% short of the $3.75 Earnings Whisper number. Earnings grew 32.7% from a year ago, so profitability is not the issue. The issue is that a stock carrying higher expectations into the report got a strong quarter rather than an exceptional one. Management raised full-year guidance for the third consecutive quarter, but the increase was the smallest of the year. Several leading indicators also softened. That is the central tension: the earnings engine is running hot, while the measures that feed future revenue are cooling.

AZZ AZZ Inc.

AZZ Beats and Raises Again as Growth Accelerates, but a Modest Guide Lift and Cooling Sentiment Temper the Celebration

AZZ Inc. delivered the kind of acceleration quarter that has been missing from the story. Adjusted EPS of $2.00 beat the $1.82 consensus by 5.3% and cleared the $1.90 Earnings Whisper number. Revenue of $486.89 million topped the $461.79 million consensus by 5.4%. More important than the size of the beat was the slope. Adjusted earnings grew 29.0% year over year, compared with just 3.9% growth in the first quarter. Sales growth of 16.7% followed 6.3% in Q1 and 9.4% in the prior fiscal fourth quarter. Management raised fiscal 2027 guidance for the second consecutive quarter. The central tension is that the business is clearly gathering speed, yet the raise largely passes through the beat, management is already warning that growth will moderate, and the market has spent the past quarter marking the stock down rather than up.

SOTK Sono-Tek Corp

Sono-Tek Misses on Q2 as Growth Stalls and Costs Rise, but a Record Order and Accelerated Capacity Build Shift the Story to Fiscal 2028

Sono-Tek (SOTK) missed fiscal second-quarter expectations on both lines. EPS was $0.02 against a $0.05 consensus, a 60.0% shortfall. Revenue of $5.23 million came in 7.9% below the $5.68 million estimate. Earnings fell 33.3% year over year, and revenue grew just 1.3%, a clear slowdown from the 6% first-half pace, which implies a much stronger first quarter. Yet the quarter's significance lies almost entirely outside it. A record $7.19 million post-quarter order and a rebuilding backlog give management its best visibility in at least a year, though almost all of it lands in fiscal 2028. That is the central tension: a soft current quarter and unchanged guidance set against a forward picture that materially improved.

FAST Fastenal Co.

Fastenal Turns Accelerating Sales Into a Record Profit Gain, but a Revenue Miss and Fading Pricing Complicate a Crowded Setup

Fastenal (FAST) delivered the quarter its turnaround in operating leverage had been building toward, even if the top line fell short. Third-quarter earnings of $0.35 per share topped both the $0.34 consensus and the $0.34 Earnings Whisper number by 2.9%, and earnings grew 20.7% year over year. Revenue of $2.463 billion rose 15.5% but missed the $2.49 billion consensus by 1.1%. The miss deserves context. Daily sales growth accelerated for a fourth straight quarter, from roughly 11% in the fourth quarter of 2025 to 12.4%, 14.7%, and now 15.5%. The central tension is that Fastenal is growing faster and converting that growth to profit better than at any point in this cycle, yet the market had priced in even more, and several of the underlying supports are softening.

MS Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley Beats as Record Wealth Flows Offset a Sharp Institutional Slowdown and a More Cautious Tone

Morgan Stanley beat expectations for the September quarter, but the beat came as the firm's run of sequential records ended. The company earned $3.03 per share, ahead of the $2.83 consensus and the $2.92 Earnings Whisper number, for a 3.8% surprise. Earnings grew 8.2% year over year, and revenue grew 6.7%. Yet EPS fell meaningfully from $3.46 in the second quarter and $3.43 in the first, and return on tangible common equity slid to 22.6% from 26.6% and 27.1%. That is the central tension. Wealth management produced its strongest organic-growth quarter on record just as the institutional engine that powered the first half lost momentum in September.

BAC Bank of America Corporation

Bank of America Misses on EPS as $1.2B AML Charge and Trading Slump Overshadow a Stronger 2027 NII Outlook

Bank of America's third quarter delivered a weaker headline and a stronger forward guide. Adjusted earnings of $1.08 per share missed the $1.11 consensus and fell well short of the $1.17 Earnings Whisper number, a 7.7% shortfall. Earnings still grew 1.9% from a year ago, but they dropped from $1.21 in the second quarter. GAAP EPS was only $0.91 after a $1.2 billion non-deductible OCC/FinCEN anti-money-laundering settlement charge. Against that, management gave its first 2027 net interest income (NII) outlook: growth of 8% or more, above its original 5-7% medium-term range. That is the central tension. The banking franchise is accelerating, while the parts of the model that powered the record second quarter (markets, investment banking and operating leverage) went into reverse.

BLK BlackRock, Inc.

BlackRock Posts Its Strongest Quarter of 2026 as 11% Organic Fee Growth and a 47.8% Margin Outrun Slowing Technology Momentum

BlackRock (BLK) delivered the kind of quarter that makes its earnings-power argument difficult to dismiss. Third-quarter earnings of $15.93 per share beat the $14.01 consensus by 12.5% and cleared the $14.16 Earnings Whisper number by a wide margin. Revenue of $7.752 billion topped the $7.45 billion consensus by 4.1%. Earnings growth accelerated sharply to 37.9% year over year, up from roughly 15% in the second quarter and 11% in the first. Revenue growth moved the other way, slowing to 19.1% from 31% as the HPS acquisition lapped. That divergence is the central story. The inorganic boost is fading, but organic growth and operating leverage are more than filling the gap.

ASML Beats on Margin and Upgrades, but Supply Limits Now Constrain the AI Demand Story More Than Orders Do

ASML delivered a decisive third-quarter beat. Earnings of $14.89 per share topped the $12.47 consensus by 12.5% and cleared the $13.23 Earnings Whisper number. Revenue of $13.42 billion edged past the $13.18 billion estimate by 1.8%. Earnings grew 132.3% year over year on 52.8% revenue growth. The more consequential message, though, was not the quarter itself. Management said customer demand now exceeds the capacity it has planned for both 2027 and 2028. For the world's lithography monopoly, the binding constraint has shifted from orders to output, and that is the central development of the report.

UNH UnitedHealth Group Incorporated

UnitedHealth Beats and Raises Again, Anchors 2027 Growth, but Commercial Remains the Weak Link

UnitedHealth Group delivered another beat-and-raise quarter that strengthens the margin-recovery story. Adjusted earnings of $4.69 per share topped the $4.60 Earnings Whisper number, a 2.0% surprise, and cleared the $4.12 consensus estimate by a wide margin. Earnings grew 60.6% from $2.92 a year ago. Revenue of $112.69 billion beat the $111.38 billion consensus by 1.2% but fell 0.4% year over year. Management raised full-year adjusted EPS guidance to at least $20.50 from $19.50-$20.00. That is the third consecutive raise from an initial outlook of more than $17.75. The central tension is the source of the growth. UnitedHealth is expanding profit on a shrinking book of business, and its largest commercial franchise is still moving the wrong way.

C Citigroup Inc.

Citigroup Raises Its Full-Year Targets Even as Third-Quarter Growth Cools and Shares Sit Near Their Lows

Citigroup delivered a clean earnings beat and a broad round of guidance increases, but the quarter also marked a clear slowdown from a very strong first half. Earnings were $2.85 per share, above the $2.66 consensus estimate and edging past the $2.84 Earnings Whisper number by 0.4%. Per-share earnings grew 27.2% year over year. Management raised its full-year 2026 return on tangible common equity (ROTCE) target to "above 11%," lifted its outlook for net interest income excluding markets (NII ex-markets) to mid-to-high 6% growth, and tightened its efficiency-ratio target to below 60%. The central tension is that Citi raised its full-year targets just as its quarterly momentum was clearly fading.

WFC Wells Fargo & Company

Wells Fargo Edges Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Top-Line Momentum Cools and Capital Tightens

Wells Fargo (WFC) earned $1.87 per share in the third quarter, two cents above the $1.85 consensus but short of the $1.93 Earnings Whisper number, a 3.1% miss against the bar investors actually cared about. Earnings grew 8.1% year over year, so the trajectory is still higher. The central tension is sequential. After a blowout second quarter, nearly every growth engine slowed at once. EPS slipped from $2.00 in Q2, return on tangible common equity fell to 16.3% from 17.7%, and the capital cushion thinned. The NIM stabilization and reaffirmed full-year guidance show the core franchise is intact. The quarter still makes it harder to argue that Wells Fargo's post-asset-cap acceleration is compounding cleanly.

GS The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.

Goldman Sachs Crushes a Lowered Bar, but a Step Down From Q2's Peak and a More Cautious Macro Tone Temper the Beat

Goldman Sachs delivered a third-quarter beat that looks enormous on paper. Diluted EPS of $17.01 cleared the $12.90 consensus by 31.4% and topped the $12.95 Earnings Whisper number. Earnings grew 38.9% year over year. Management also noted roughly $450 million in charitable contributions; excluding that item, EPS would have been closer to $18. Yet the central tension is that this was a step down from an exceptional second quarter. EPS fell from $20.98 in Q2, ROE slipped from 23.5% to 18.7%, and David Solomon framed the backdrop more cautiously. The beat is real. The direction of travel is less clear.

ACI Albertsons Companies, Inc.

Albertsons Meets the Whisper but Pulls Its Outlook as Identical Sales Turn Negative and a Full Turnaround Begins

Albertsons (ACI) delivered a quarter that matched the numbers but changed the story. Earnings Whispers-normalized EPS of $0.34 topped the $0.31 consensus and matched the $0.34 Earnings Whisper, an in-line result by our measure. Revenue of $18.895 billion edged past the $18.83 billion consensus by 0.3%. Neither figure is what matters. Earnings fell 19.0% year over year and revenue slipped 0.1%. Management also stopped providing a fiscal 2026 outlook and launched a comprehensive business review that puts customer strategy, cost structure, the banner portfolio, markets and capital allocation all under examination. That is the central tension: the quarter landed where management said it would, yet management itself concluded the plan behind those expectations was not good enough.

FBK FB Financial Corporation

FB Financial Matches on EPS, but Lower Provisions and Buybacks Mask Weaker Core Earnings Power as Margin Slips

FB Financial Corporation (FBK) delivered exactly what Wall Street expected: adjusted earnings of $1.21 per share, matching the $1.21 consensus and up 13.1% from a year ago. GAAP EPS was $1.20, compared with $1.13 in the second quarter. Earnings Whispers recorded revenue of $260.65 million, a 44.7% surprise versus the $180.14 million consensus but down 1.1% year over year. Investors should treat that revenue beat with caution. The company's own total revenue, defined as net interest income plus noninterest income, was $174.5 million. That was essentially flat with both the prior quarter's $174.8 million and the year-ago $173.9 million. The large gap suggests a difference in revenue definition rather than an operating blowout. The central tension is that FBK's balance-sheet growth is accelerating while its earnings engine is not.

JPM JPMorgan Chase & Co.

JPMorgan Misses on EPS as Fee Momentum Fades and Capital Tightens, but a Rate-Driven NII Outlook Recasts the Story

JPMorgan Chase delivered a rare earnings miss in the third quarter. It reported EPS of $5.75 against a $5.94 consensus and a $6.10 Earnings Whisper number, a 5.7% shortfall. Earnings still grew 13.4% year over year, but the sequential picture is weaker. Per-share earnings stepped down from $6.14 in Q2 and $5.94 in Q1, net income fell to $15.3 billion from $16.9 billion, and return on tangible common equity slipped to 20% from 23%. Revenue of $76.192 billion topped the $52.21 billion consensus by 45.9% and grew 6.0% year over year. That outsized gap should not be read as a demand surprise, because the call described a franchise whose revenue growth is clearly slowing. The central tension is that JPMorgan is trading a fading fee and trading cycle for a rising net interest income story, and paying for it with higher expenses and a thinner capital cushion.

JNJ Johnson & Johnson

J&J Tops Consensus but Misses the Whisper as Deal Costs Swamp a Pharma-Led Sales Acceleration

Johnson & Johnson delivered a quarter that looks different depending on which bar you use. Adjusted EPS of $2.59 cleared the $2.53 consensus but fell well short of the $2.93 Earnings Whisper, an 11.6% miss against the number investors were actually positioned for. Adjusted earnings fell 7.5% year over year even as revenue rose 5.9% to $25.4 billion, which was 0.2% shy of consensus. That is the central tension. The top line is improving, led by a pharma franchise that keeps outrunning the Stelara cliff, but deal spending, margin compression and a faltering MedTech business are absorbing the growth before it reaches the bottom line.

DPZ Domino's Pizza, Inc.

Domino's Beats on Procurement Gains and Buybacks, but New CEO's First Quarter Brings a Third Straight Round of Guidance Cuts

Domino's Pizza delivered a clean third-quarter beat that is hard to celebrate. Diluted EPS of $4.60 topped the $4.33 consensus and the $4.38 Earnings Whisper number by 5.0% and grew 12.7% year over year. Revenue of $1.186 billion beat by 1.3% and rose 3.4%. Under new CEO Joe Jordan, however, management cut nearly every major 2026 target for the third consecutive quarter. U.S. unit growth and international comps took the deepest reductions, and management said for the first time that U.S. franchisee profitability is declining. That is the central tension: the quarter's earnings improved while the outlook for the system that produces those earnings deteriorated.

ODC Oil-Dri Corporation of America

Oil-Dri Closes FY26 With a Record Quarter, but SG&A Cuts, Not Gross Margin, Drove the 12% EPS Gain

Oil-Dri Corporation of America (ODC) finished fiscal 2026 with record fourth-quarter revenue. It earned $1.00 per diluted common share on revenue of $129.29 million for the quarter ended July 2026. Earnings grew 12.4% from a year ago and revenue grew 3.3%. No consensus estimate or Earnings Whisper was available, so the quarter is best judged against Oil-Dri's own trajectory. On that basis, management did what it promised. Early in the year it guided to a difficult first half followed by a stronger second half and a realistic chance of a full-year profit gain. It delivered record annual sales of $493.8 million, record net income of $57.0 million and EBITDA of $93.3 million, up from $90.0 million. The central tension is how the gains were produced. Earnings grew faster than revenue because expenses were cut, not because product economics improved.

DAL Delta Air Lines, Inc.

Delta's Revenue Is Accelerating, but Fuel and Costs Force a Steep Guidance Cut

Delta Air Lines reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of $1.72 per share, 4.4% below the $1.80 consensus and up just 0.6% from a year ago. Revenue of $20.186 billion grew 21.1% and beat the $17.70 billion consensus by 14.0%. That pairing defines the quarter. Demand is accelerating at a pace few airlines can match, yet almost none of it reaches the bottom line. Fuel is absorbing the revenue gains. The more consequential news came in the outlook: Delta cut full-year EPS guidance to $5.10-$5.60, down from the $6.50-$7.50 range it set in January and reaffirmed in July.

HOVR New Horizon Aircraft Ltd.

Horizon Aircraft Beats on a Narrower Loss and Lands $1B in Non-Binding LOIs, but Cash Burn Nearly Doubles

New Horizon Aircraft (HOVR) reported a fiscal first-quarter loss of $0.05 per share for the period ended August 2026. That beat the consensus estimate of an $0.08 loss by 37.5%, and the per-share loss improved 54.5% from a year ago. Revenue was zero, as expected for a company still building its first full-scale aircraft. The headline is clean, but it is not the most important number in the quarter. The real story has two sides. Horizon turned loose commercial 'discussions' into more than $1 billion in signed letters of intent. At the same time, quarterly cash burn rose to $7.2 million, from roughly $4 million per quarter in fiscal 2026. That is the central tension: demand signals improved sharply just as the cost of reaching a flying demonstrator stepped up.

PKE Park Aerospace Corp.

Park Aerospace's Missile-Driven Quarter Beats Its Own Guide, but a GE Forecast Cut and Tulsa Delay Temper the Setup

Park Aerospace delivered the strongest quarter in this comparison set, and growth is accelerating. Fiscal second-quarter earnings of $0.21 per share rose 75.0% year over year. Revenue of $20.79 million grew 26.9%, up from $18.3 million in the first quarter and $16.4 million a year earlier. The year-over-year pace also quickened from the first quarter, when sales of $18.3 million compared with roughly $15.4 million in the prior-year period. No consensus estimate was available, so the useful benchmark is management's own guidance. Sales landed near the top of the $19.5-21 million range. Adjusted EBITDA of $5.29 million cleared the $4.3-5.1 million guide outright. The central tension is that management raised the near-term outlook while trimming its full-year GE engine forecast and pushing out the Tulsa expansion. The quarter was better than the multi-quarter trajectory it implies.

NG NOVAGOLD RESOURCES INC.

NOVAGOLD's In-Line Loss Takes a Back Seat to the Donlin Consolidation, but Rising Costs and Slipping Timelines Need Watching

NOVAGOLD reported a fiscal third-quarter loss of $0.08 per share, exactly matching the consensus estimate. As a development-stage company it again posted no revenue. By the Earnings Whispers measure, earnings fell 100.0% year over year, and the net loss widened to $36.0 million. For a pre-production gold developer the EPS line matters little on its own. This quarter is about the agreement to buy Paulson's 40% of Donlin Gold in an all-share deal and take ownership to 100%. That is a transformational strategic step. The central tension is that it arrives alongside higher costs, faster cash burn and some quiet slippage in the project timeline.
